Default Theos take - Monk Equipment

On a few of the other threads the issue of what armor to wear has come up several times, also have received fair warning in other threads to keep the arguments more cleanly. Bearing that in mind I'll ask everyone to post their armor , and ONLY comment on why the elected to run it as they do. Normally I'm a fan of constructive criticism but it would appear that either criticisim is replaced by insults or the constructive part is neglected, myself included.

-Outline for my armor-
Face- Survivor insignia, on attribute minor run and the static bonus is also on attribute. I.E - if i'm in prot both the rune and static bonus are in prot.

Chest - Survivor insignia, Superior vigor

Hands - Survivor insignia, Minor Divine favor

Legs - Survivor insignia, minor in secondary attribute or vitae

Feet - Survivor insignia, vitae

Weapon Sets-
1 - Cruel Pvp Spear of enchanting "brawn over brains"
PvP Storm Artifact of Fortitude "ignorance is bliss"
health - 610 energy - 23

2 - Pvp Rod of memory "Seize the day"
PvP command shield of Fortitude "riddle of steel"
health - 610 energy - 45

3 - Cruel Pvp Spear of enchanting "brawn over brains"
PvP command shield of Fortitude "Riders on the storm"
health - 610 energy - 25

4- Cruel Pvp Spear of enchanting "brawn over brains"
PvP command shield of Fortitude "Sleep now in the fire"
health - 610 energy - 25

Reasoning -

Insignias - Played around with other insignias before concluding i never regret having the extra health. A lot of the other insignias where more useful in certain circumstances but in the end i like that i can always count on that extra health.

Runes- Again i played around with a few of the faster recovery runes but except in circumstances where i have the suspicion my other monk is not terribly good at removing conditions and i don't have solid removal on my bar, i prefer the extra health.

weapon set 1-
Use this set to keep my energy as low as possible, haven't found a way to go below 23 yet. Prefer a spear to an ax or a sword as if i accidentally engage an opponent i don't go barreling into the middle of things

weapon set 2-
My energy well, keep a rod i meet the requirements for and the "seize the day" inscription allows me to get quite the little boost of energy. I never stay on this set for more than one or two casts, and I've only had to fall back on it during matches with energy hate so the negative energy regen doesn't hurts. Since one of the more popular teams for energy hate right now is IWAY i put riddle of steel on here so during the usually drawn out IWAY matches i take a lil less damage while in my energy switch.l

weapon set 3-
Generally the same as the 1st set i just switch to this to get the extra armor from the shield as well as its inscription. For use agaisnt spike teams

weapon set 4-
Exactly the same as 3 only for different spike types. Also tend to use this if they have SH pressure.

Survivor is only useful as infuser. Otherwise, take blessed and channeling, maybe blessed even without channeling depending on the build. Why are you running -5e with your shields? that is pointless. You need a piercing shield, and you should have 20% enchantment along with your normal offhand (which you don't have) as well. You really don't need to have a full -e set as one weapon slot, it's better spent on other options; you only need have it in your inventory. If you know how to channel properly, you should never need a 15/1 set. Also, you need a regular energy set with standard offhand and wand/+5e spear/axe whatever, not one with -1 energy regen. (thoughts may be kind of jumbled, it's late...)

15/-1 shouldn't be used on a monk. Maybe in gvg but i wouldn't suggest using it in HA because if u die with ur high energy set, u'll be screwed. When u rez u'll have no energy.

So the original post sucks? o ok.

Anyway, Tommy had an excellent writeup on monk weapon sets:

Focus item +12 energy +30 health +5 armor vs physical/elemental

Defensive set
One-handed weapon +5 energy +30 health
Shield +16 armor +30 health +10 armor vs slashing/blunt/piercing/etc

Shield (req 7 tactics) +16 armor +30 health -3 physical damage while hexed

Wand +10% spell recharge +15 energy -1 energy regen

Wand +5 energy over 50 +20% heal recharge
Focus item +12 energy +20% heal recharge +30 health

Staff +10 energy +20% longer enchantments +20% prot recharge +20% prot fast cast +20% prot fast cast

Efficiency set 3 (Divert Hexes)
Wand +5 energy over 50 +20% prot recharge
Focus item +12 energy +20% prot recharge +30 health

Efficiency set 4 (Energy Denial)
One-handed weapon -5 energy +30 health
Focus item (requirement not met) +5 armor -5 energy +30 health

Efficiency set 5 (RC boon prot)
Staff +10 energy +20% prot fast cast +20% prot fast cast +20% prot recharge +30 health

Efficiency set 6 (Healer's boon)

Additionally, Drew had a pretty noob-friendly pic to show what he uses, and drew is quite the little pre-prot monkey:

Mo/W LoD - health stays at 570, energy seperated by 12 point incriments
-20/20 fast cast -> Sometimes I will use it for infusing, but normally I like to infuse in my shield set. The main reason is to help prevent LoD from being interrupted.
- Negative -> Avoiding edenial/dyeing set.
- 20/20 fast recharge -> For LoD spamming.
- Base set -> +armor set.

5th weapon set -> Positive - use a +15 energy focii. I switch out my 20/20 fast cast or 20/20 recharge depending which one I need the least versus a particular team.

Mo/A Prot - health stays at 570, energy seperated by 12 point incriments, crippling mods for return Smile, enchanting mods as much as possible
- Positive
- Negative
- 20 Prot -> If I run ZB, I'll use 20/20 fast recharge
- Base set -> +armor set

-5th weapon set -> I will often put the wand on my armor set when I get bored. MASSIVE DKP AMIRITE
This is probably all you'll ever need to know as far as monk weapon setups are concerned.

I would delete this thread, but I like Tom's post, so I'm just closing it.

No more guides though please >.>
